Welcome to Stephensen Elementary School, proudly serving students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade on Mountain Home Air Force Base. Located on Mountain Home Air Force Base, Stephensen Elementary School proudly serves students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade as part of the Mountain Home School District. Our school is a unique learning community where military and civilian families come together in an environment focused on academic excellence, character development, and student success.
Stephensen Elementary was named in honor of Colonel Mark L. Stephensen, a United States Air Force pilot who was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base before deploying to Vietnam. On April 29, 1967, Colonel Stephensen was shot down during a combat mission and was declared Missing in Action while serving his country. Originally known as Base Primary School, the school was officially renamed Stephensen Elementary in 2014 to honor Colonel Stephensen's sacrifice, service, and the enduring connection his family maintains with the Mountain Home military community.
Today, Colonel Stephensen's legacy serves as a daily reminder of the values we strive to instill in our students: courage, integrity, perseverance, service, and leadership.
In September 2024, Stephensen Elementary became Idaho's first Purple Star School, recognizing our outstanding commitment to supporting military-connected students and families. As a school located on an active military installation, we understand the unique experiences of military life and work diligently to ensure every student feels welcomed, supported, and connected.
